Which devices enter the Finder
The catalogue preserves current, announced and historical models. Finder results require explicit editorial eligibility and active or preorder status. A catalogue listing alone is not a recommendation.
Specifications and verification
Manufacturer documentation is preferred for specifications; reviews and benchmarks provide practical context. Device pages link the underlying sources. Last verified refers to recorded checks, not a promise that every field was checked that day. Information is reviewed as new evidence is added; there is no automated daily verification guarantee.
Performance assessments
Systems use the existing 0–5 scale: not suitable, experimental, limited, good with compromises, very good and excellent. Provisional entries remain labelled. These are platform-level assessments, not guarantees for every game, emulator version or power setting. Practical criteria use 0–10; an overall editorial average appears only when at least six criteria are present.
Requirements before ranking
Every selected system needs at least 3/5. A fixed budget uses only prices recorded in the chosen currency; currencies are never silently converted. Native PC gaming, mandatory pocketability and a mandatory second screen are checked before scoring. Impossible next answers are disabled, and changing an earlier answer clears later selections. Selected form factor, OS, display features and extras are requirements: only documented matches remain. General priorities such as battery life order those matches. One or two genuine matches are shown without adding incompatible alternatives.
How priorities affect results
Base weights are systems 35%, price 15%, portability 10%, display 10%, ergonomics 10%, battery 7.5%, setup 7.5% and extras 5%. Priorities adjust these weights, which are then normalized. Unknown criteria earn no points and reduce the separately displayed data coverage. Qualitative match labels describe weighted fit; they are not a probability of satisfaction. Alternatives and shared results
The Finder offers an overall match and, where evidence allows, a lower-price option and a different suitable alternative. Shared links contain the normalized answers and recalculate against the current database. Results can change when evidence or prices are updated.
Offers and independence
Affiliate commission does not influence Finder rankings or device recommendations. Merchant offers are separate records. Region, availability, comparable total price and recorded merchant reliability guide their order. Unknown shipping is stated explicitly. Different currencies are grouped without claiming a cheapest converted total.
Creator reviews
External reviews provide additional context. Attribution is retained and no creator endorsement of HandheldScout is implied. Videos load only after interaction. Our editorial assessments interpret documented evidence; they are not scores attributed to a creator.
